Situated on Jutland’s shoulder, Hanstholm has gained the west coast’s youngest and fastest growing harbour… and fastest seamen’s home by the North Sea. We’re a few stone throws from the breakwater under the hillside at the octagonal lighthouse, which was once the world’s brightest. Move in with us any time of the day or night it suits you, to a single, double or family room with TV, bath and toilet, or save money staying in a bunk bed in a four- and six-person room. You’ll find peace and quiet a few hundred metres from the north Atlantic’s busy ferries, freight ships and fishing boats.
Here, at a barren and wind-blown beach, a handful of inhabitants fought for survival against the mighty forces of the North Sea, before the German canons threatened to shoot halfway to Norway from the top of the cliff. A number of experts rejected building a Harbour on Hanstholm as pure fantasy, and it was not until the 1960s that practical experiments proved that it was indeed possible. But take a walk along the breakwater now and see what engineers, fishermen and businesspeople have since constructed. Throw out a line and catch a fish, enjoy the sun and the wind in the 4,000-hectare game reserve to the south at Klitmoeller, or try the surfer’s paradise north of the Harbour. Our kitchen is ready for big appetites when you come home.
The best place to go!
